HOW TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE ON A RESOUND HEARING AID -
What is Firmware?
Firmware is a type of software that gives directions and instructions to computerised devices. Types of devices that run with firmware are:
- Mobile phones
- Video game consoles
- Digital watches
- Digital cameras
- Digital hearing aids
- GPS systems
Firmware tells a device what it is and how it works, example. By pushing a button (A) you turn the device on, by moving the joystick to the right, the car turns, by pushing and holding button (B) you go into program 2, etc.
Why Update Firmware?
Most Manufacturers of computerised devices allow firmware updates to accomplish 3 things:
- Fix a bug
- Improve or add functionality
- Add to the list of compatible devices
What kind of improvements can I expect by updating the firmware in ReSound hearing aids?
- A hearing aid manufacturer will have firmware updates for the following reasons:
- Improve functionality (ex. Add more levels to noise reduction, improve directional processing, add more functionality to a push button, add memories, unlock features reserved for premium level devices, etc.
- Fix a bug
- Add to the list of mobile or wireless devices that can connect with the hearing aids.
What are the steps required for installing new firmware onto a ReSound hearing aid?
Check to make sure you are using the latest version of Aventa—3.10 update (version 126.96.36.199).
Insert new batteries into the hearing aids. Remove the sticker and wait 2 minutes before closing the battery doors to allow activation of the battery.
Connect the heading aid(s). Note: To upgrade firmware, a cabled connection is required. To verify firmware, Airlink can be used.
Ensure current hearing aid settings are saved to your database. Select Continue Fitting.
Choose Instrument > Update Instruments to check the firmware version.
Here version 4.5.3 is shown with a new firmware version, 4.5.7 available. Click Update Instrument.
An Instrument Update Warning will populate, click continue, then click Update Instrument.
Once the firmware update is complete, read the saved settings from your database and save them back in to the hearing aid(s).
For hearing aids with ear to ear—once settings have been saved back in to the hearing aids, verify ear to ear communication is still active.
